Enhancing Public Transport Accessibility and Connectivity for Dubai Stations

Project Overview:

Crown Consult partnered with the RTA to design and implement comprehensive infrastructure improvements around 10 metro and 3 marine stations in Dubai.

Project Scope:

  • Comprehensive catchment area study: Analyzed a 1 km radius around each station to identify opportunities for improved connectivity and accessibility.
  • Non-motorized transport (NMT) network design: Developed dedicated pedestrian and cycling paths to encourage active travel options.
  • Multimodal interchange design: Streamlined connections between various transportation modes, facilitating seamless passenger transfers.
  • Safety improvements: Implemented measures to prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, including traffic calming and dedicated crossings.
  • Inclusive design: Ensured accessibility for people with special needs through ramped walkways, tactile paving, and accessible signage.
  • Landscape design: Created inviting public spaces that enhanced the overall station experience.
  • Tender document preparation and contractor selection: Managed the procurement process to appoint a qualified contractor for implementation.
  • Construction phase support: Provided ongoing site supervision and addressed design changes during construction.
  • Stakeholder management: Collaborated effectively with local authorities and stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.

Highlights

  • Improved public transport ridership: Designed infrastructure to increase public transport use from 16% (2016) to 30% (2030).
  • Seamless multimodal integration: Streamlined connections between metro, marine stations, and active travel modes (walking, cycling).
  • Enhanced pedestrian and cyclist safety: Prioritized safety for vulnerable users through dedicated pathways and crossings.
  • Accessibility for all: Incorporated provisions for people with special needs within a 1 km radius of each station.

This project demonstrates Crown Consult's commitment to creating sustainable and accessible transportation systems that encourage public transport use and benefit all users.
